The tireless efforts of the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society will be given a much needed boost this year when they receive a donation from KFC’s annual World Hunger Relief Fund programme.

The 2011 donation by KFC follows a successful partnership started last year when KFC provided several meals to members of the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society.

The World Hunger Relief Campaign seeks to highlight global hunger issues and raise funds to assist the United Nations World Food Program and other hunger relief agencies globally. In addition to making their traditional donation to the global fund, KFC, in an effort to make a difference in the countries within which it operates, chooses a local charity to support.

Marketing Coordinator at KFC, Shekelia Barrow, said the KFC’s commitment to alleviating hunger made the decision to partner with the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society an easy one:

“There are a number of persons in Barbados who, due to various types of misfortune have found themselves without a home, and without regular access to food. We at KFC believe in providing as much support as possible to these persons, because no one deserves to go hungry. We are therefore committed to working closely with the Vagrants and Homeless Society, and look forward to a worthwhile, rewarding partnership.”

In response to being chosen as the beneficiary of this year’s KFC World Hunger Relief Fund efforts, President of the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society, Kemar Saffrey said the assistance is very timely because they are currently in an advanced stage of expanding their operations:

“Having had the pleasure of working with KFC in the past we are delighted to be chosen as this year’s beneficiary of their World Hunger Relief efforts. We are finalising details to acquire a facility to clothe, feed, and hopefully house our members so we are delighted for the contribution. I would like to thank KFC once again for their generous support.”

“The valiant & consistent moves by the Barbados Vagrants and Homeless Society will be given a much needed boost this year when they receive a donation from KFC’s annual World Hunger Relief Fund programme.”

Effective immediately – World Hunger Relief Posters and collection bins will be provided at all thirteen of KFC’s restaurants across Barbados where customers can provide monetary contributions to the relief effort. The funds will be collected for two months and will be divided equally between the coordinating international organisation and the local recipient chosen by KFC.
